What and where is Brooklyn Grange?

Brooklyn Grange is the world’s largest rooftop soil farm, operating across multiple rooftops in New York City, primarily in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and in Long Island City. It’s more than just a farm: it's a hub for sustainable agriculture, community building, and environmental education.

Transportation / Guide

  • Brooklyn Grange’s flagship rooftop farm is located at Building 3, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY 11205.

    • Subway:Take the F train to York Street or the A/C to High Street–Brooklyn Bridge. From there, it’s about a 15–20 minute walk or a short bike ride. 

    • Bus: The B67 stops at the Brooklyn Navy Yard entrance. The B57 and B62 also run nearby.

    • By Bike or Ferry: The NYC Ferry (Astoria Route) stops at the Navy Yard. There’s also ample Citi Bike access and bike parking near the Yard.

Entrances: Enter the Brooklyn Navy Yard at the Sands Street gate. Sign in at the security desk, then follow signs or staff instructions to the rooftop farm.

Visitor Tips and Etiquette

  • Farm Hours: Tours and events must be booked in advance via their website. Walk-ins are not allowed.

  • Clothing: Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather — it’s a real working farm!

  • Photography: Allowed, but be respectful of staff and any private events in progress.
